The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office is taking a stand against animal abuse by unveiling a new yard sign that will be placed in suspects' yards after an arrest.
The sign states, “This resident chose animal cruelty. Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office chose handcuffs.” The sign further states that the county has a zero-tolerance policy for animal cruelty. According to Animal Control Coordinator Megan Smith, this is the first time a Florida county has implemented such signs following an animal abuse investigation.
According to the sheriff’s office, the signs will be utilized both within the county and in coordination with Florida Statutes.
