The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, has arrested Cameron Lee Fine and Josh Tobias Daniel, both 18, in connection to a homicide that occurred on Saturday, May 3, in White Springs.
Fine is being charged with one count of second-degree murder. Daniel is being charged with accessory after the fact, a second-degree felony. Both are charged with one count each of altering, destroying, concealing or removing physical evidence, a third-degree felony.
“The swift and collaborative efforts between our agencies resulted in the arrests of these two individuals just a few hours after the initial arrival on-scene,” said FDLE Tallahassee Special Agent in Charge Keith Wilmer. “At FDLE, we are committed to working hand-in-hand with our local partners to ensure communities like Hamilton County remain safe and secure.”
“Every cold case represents not just an unsolved crime, but a family still waiting for answers,” said Hamilton County Sheriff Brian Creech.“To the families who have not yet received the closure of justice, we want you to know that you have not been forgotten. For those who choose to continue committing crimes and disrupting the lives of the citizens of Hamilton County: we will find you, we will arrest you, and you will face the full force of the law.”
HCSO and FDLE began their joint investigation after a body was discovered inside a vehicle submerged in the Suwannee River in White Springs in the early morning hours of Sunday, May 4. FDLE Crime Scene personnel and special agents responded to the scene to assist. During the investigation and the recovery of the victim and vehicle from the water, it was discovered that the victim sustained gunshot wounds.
HCSO investigators and FDLE special agents worked closely together and identified Fine and Daniel as suspects in the homicide. Fine and Daniel were arrested, transported, and booked into the Hamilton County Jail at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 4, just over 13 hours from the time the incident was reported.
The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team and the State Attorney’s Office, 3rd Judicial Circuit, responded to the scene as well.
