Members of the Hamilton County High School Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapter recently competed in Meat Judging at the Florida State Fair. During the competition, knowledge, speed and attention to detail were critical.
Students evaluated 10 tables of meat, each with three cuts, and identified the species (beef, pork or lamb), the primal cut (shoulder, loin, ham, etc.), the retail cut (steak, chop, roast, such as t-bone or porterhouse), and the proper cooking method (dry, moist or dry/moist).
This hands-on competition challenges students to apply real-world skills used in the meat and food science industry while building confidence, teamwork and decision-making under pressure. We’re proud of our students for representing Hamilton County High School FFA at the Florida State Fair!
