A three-vehicle crash on Interstate 75 in Hamilton County claimed the life of a 21-year-old passenger late Saturday night, Jan. 18. According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the incident occurred at approximately 11:24 p.m., two miles south of State Road 6, when a sedan traveling southbound hydroplaned during heavy rain and struck a guardrail. The vehicle eventually came to rest across the inside and middle travel lanes. However, the sedan was then struck by a sport utility vehicle. Following the second collision, the sedan’s driver and one passenger exited the vehicle after the collision. Moments later, the FHP report states the passenger, a 21-year-old woman from Pembroke Pines, Fla., was struck by a truck tractor traveling southbound. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the sedan, a 21-year-old Miami woman, and the other passenger, a 20-year-old Miami woman, sustained minor injuries. The driver of the SUV, a 28-year-old Jacksonville woman, and the truck tractor driver, a 53-year-old man from Florence, Ala., were uninjured.
