The Hamilton County Board of County Commissioners met on Tuesday, March 18, at the County Courthouse in Jasper.
Among the issues tackled early in the evening was a public hearing on a special permit that would allow Nextower Development Group, LLC, to place a cellular tower in an agricultural zoning district on property outside of Jennings.
Following the hearing, a proclamation was requested and approved by the board for Hamilton County to acknowledge Thursday, April 24, through Wednesday, April 30, as Youth Leadership Week by the Our Community Cares Coalition. Additionally, a request for fuel funding in the amount of $5,000 was also granted to the Florida Youth program for equipment they have been using to clear debris from properties in Hamilton County.
A significant discussion came toward the end of the meeting when Board Chairman Richie McCoy had the floor. Among his list of items to discuss was an RV ordinance proposal, which had been delayed for a while. McCoy requested that the board begin to consider how they want to move forward with the ordinance.
It was suggested that the board, along with other county officials and county attorney Andrew Decker, meet to discuss options.
One other item McCoy mentioned was a request for the county to include an ordinance concerning large gatherings. The request came from Hamilton County Sheriff Brian Creech, who was not in attendance but had submitted it to the board prior to the meeting. The ordinance would prohibit large unauthorized gatherings within Hamilton County. Decker said he would review other county ordinances on the matter, including in Union County, where it was brought to the attention of the board that such an event occurred last year, which resulted in the Union County Sheriff’s Office requesting mutual aid from other agencies to help break the gathering up.
The next Hamilton County Board of County Commissioners meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 1, at 9 a.m. at the Hamilton County Courthouse, located at 207 NE 1st St., in Jasper.
