US Highway 129 in Live Oak is becoming a fast-developing commercial and residential area, attracting companies from across the state and country to do business. While restaurants are seeing a significant boom on the highway, so are residential sites. For one development company, the future lies with Canyon Vistas.
The neighborhood began taking shape in 2017, when GSMS Developers started building
homes in the development located behind the property that would later be the home of the new Publix in Live Oak. According to Darren Webb, Chief Executive Officer of GSMS Developers, the homes are designed with the customers in mind. According to its website, GSMS has 50 years of combined experience in the construction industry and understands the need to adapt to changing markets.
“What makes these homes so desirable is that they are located right behind Publix and are within walking distance to restaurants and shopping,” said Webb. He added that the homes are connected to city utilities and have access to high-speed internet.
As people continue to move into Live Oak, demand for residential properties is high. It allows the city to grow and accommodate not only established residents, but also newcomers. With the new homes being built at Canyon Vistas, homeowners are getting a new home with little upkeep.
“It’s brand new and ready for you to move right in,” Webb said.
The newest batch of Canyon Vistas homes is approximately 1,200 square feet, has industrial-grade flooring, and stainless steel appliances. Each home has three bedrooms, two baths, and 9-foot ceilings. The homes are currently on the market, listed with several local realtors.
Webb also said the homes are perfect for those starting a family and for investors looking to purchase them as rental properties.
While Canyon Vistas is establishing its footprint in Live Oak, GSMS Developers also has other projects in Suwannee
County under construction, including Eagle’s Point on County Road 49 and Carriage Place off State Road 51 in Live Oak. The Reserve at Jewel Lake in Lake City is another residential community that the developers have worked on. Other projects GSMS Developers have had a hand in include Rising Oaks Assisted Living Facility, Palms Medical Group in Live Oak, and the North Florida Professional Services building in Lake City. The assisted living buildings are built for Circle of Life Assisted Living, its sister company.
The Canyon Vistas community is continuing to grow. Phase One is finishing up with four new homes currently under construction. Work on Phase Two has also begun, which will provide space for 34 additional homes to be built in the future. According to Webb, Suwannee County needs additional housing for its projected growth.
“According to a recent study, Suwannee County needs hundreds more homes to fill the growth need over the next five years,” Webb said. “We hope to do our part to fill that need.”
Webb also added that the residents at the growing Canyon Vistas community continue to share positive feedback about living there.
