In April of this year, Dowling Park resident Lisa Wells was hit with the news no one wants to hear. She was diagnosed with an aggressive form of stage IV lung cancer. Since that initial diagnosis, her cancer has spread to her liver. The cancer was also determined to be inoperable. Because the cancer was inoperable, an aggressive form of chemotherapy was needed to battle the disease. As anyone who has dealt with this knows, the chemotherapy treatment itself has left a significant mark on Wells’s overall health, leaving her unable to work.
The inability to work and the travel to Tallahassee for treatments for three days every three weeks, plus other medical appointments, has put the family in a financially difficult situation. Wells will be able to receive Social Security, beginning in November. Until then, the family is seeking help in meeting basic financial needs. A GoFundMe account has been set up at: www.gofundme.com/f/cancer-diagnosis-and-no-insurance. People can also make a donation directly into Wells’s account at Madison County Community Bank, under the name Melessia Wells. Checks may also be mailed to Wells at 11422 235th Dr., Live Oak, Fla., 32060.
