Easter is a fun time for many; the Easter Bunny makes appearances, and Easter egg hunts abound. However, amid all the celebrations, it is easy to forget the real reason for Easter. This is something that First Advent Christian Church wants to remind everyone of with its annual crosswalk.
Doug Mabey, youth pastor, started the tradition over a decade ago. However, he first observed it years earlier in Massachusetts. Every Good Friday, a church member would put a cross on his shoulders and walk 32 miles. After moving down to Florida and joining First Advent, Mabey continued the tradition, though significantly shortening the length of the walk.
