Fatal New Year’s Eve crash highlights dangers of speeding

What began as a routine traffic stop in Jennings ended in tragedy just hours later, leaving one man dead, another injured, and prompting a stark warning from local law enforcement about the dangers of speeding and impaired driving.
On Wednesday, Dec. 31, while Jennings Police Department Lt. Shawn Raggins was patrolling the town, a red sports vehicle sped through U.S. Highway 41. prompting him to jump into his vehicle and pursue the car. When he pulled 58-year-old Dale Ray Dambaugh over, Raggins asked why the DeLeon Springs resident was “taking off” so fast.
