For those who like to keep eyes on the skies, June has some exciting celestial events to enjoy.
• June 21: Summer solstice
The summer solstice is also known as the longest day and shortest night of the year. It also signals the start of astronomical summer.
• June 27: 152637 (1997 NC1) Asteroid flyby
This asteroid is classified as a “Potentially Hazardous Asteroid” due to its close relatively close orbit to Earth — but not to worry, every few years, it flies by, and gives us a good opportunity to view it. However, the flyby will unfortunately be at about 11:16 UTC, or 7:16 EDT, so that means daylight for us.
