Celebrating Black History Month with Florida Memorial University

Florida Memorial University is a private, coeducational Baptist affiliated academy, one of the oldest academic centers in the state and the only historically black university in south Florida. However, the history of the university starts in north Florida all the way back in 1879. In 1879, multiple members of the Bethlehem Baptist Association came together and discussed the need for a school for their own children, due to the complicated race issues at the time.
