Suwannee High School (SHS) is the only school in the area that boasts a tennis team. But while the team may be small compared to other schools, that does not mean they aren't mighty. On Tuesday, March 18 and Tuesday, March 25, the Bulldogs' tennis teams proved themselves a dominant force on the courts.
First, on Tuesday, March 18, it was a Bulldog versus Bulldog showdown when the Suwannee girls went up against the Taylor County Bulldogs. First to take the court was Lola Ballard, who sadly lost her match 8-3. However, she was followed by Clair Palmer, who easily won her match 8-1. Brooke Fernald was next for a tight battle, barely taking the win with a score of 9-8. Charlotte Dunn then stepped onto the court, taking her victory with ease by scoring 8-1. Finally, for the singles matches, Kira Sapp stepped onto the court. Unfortunately, she lost her match 8-3. The games didn't end with the singles matches, though; there were two doubles matches as well. Ballard and Palmer proved themselves, easily demolishing the competition with a victory of 8-2. Finally, Fernald and Dunn took to the court and ended the competition with another victory of 8-4, giving the Suwannee Bulldogs the final victory over Taylor County with a score of 5-2.
The girls' tennis team wasn't the only one to perform on the courts. On Tuesday, March 25, the boys faced off against the Santa Fe Raiders. The first match featured Evan McMillan, who sadly lost his match 8-4. Ryan Williams bottled in the next match, and he followed suit, losing the match 8-1. However, things took a turn with Dawson Wooley, who easily won his match 8-6. AJ Hitt was the next contender; he easily won with a score of 8-2. Finally, Matthew Djulvez won his match by forfeit. Doubles matches followed, starting with McMillan and Williams. Sadly, the duo fell to the Raiders with a score of 8-2. Hitt and Djulvez were the final duo to perform, and perform they did. They easily won their match with a score of 8-4. In the end, the Bulldogs won with a score of 4-3.
