Matt Buchanan was at a loss for words when the Mayo Masonic Lodge presented him with its inaugural “Community Builder Award” at its monthly lodge meeting on Monday, March 3.
During dinner, Mayo Masonic Lodge Worshipful Master Stanley Swam presented Buchanan with the award while his family was present. His father, Marvin, a longtime member of the Mayo Masonic Lodge, was also present.
“Matt clearly exemplifies all those values we hold in high esteem,” Swam said. “Matt is the owner and operator of Central Florida Lands and Timber Nursery and a dedicated husband and father.” Swam also mentioned Buchanan’s extensive participation in the community, which includes his active involvement in religious and agricultural organizations.
Swam continued, noting Buchanan’s commitment to local youth and acknowledged that he and his wife, Lynn, were foster parents. “Matt and Lynn have opened their home and hearts as foster parents, providing love, stability and a forever home through adoption,” Swam said.
Swam further added that Buchanan’s contributions to the community make him a clear candidate for the Community Builder Award. “The Community Builder Award formally recognizes outstanding non-Masons who have distinguished themselves through their service to the community, to the local state and national governments, to their church or synagogue or to humanity.”
After receiving the award, Buchanan thanked everyone who had been involved with making the award happen and was appreciative of the support he received from his family. “God has been good to me,” Buchanan said.
