On Saturday, Feb. 1, the Branford High School girls weightlifting team made their way to Chiefland High School for the Class 1A Region 2 Regional Championship.
In the 101 pound weight class of the traditional competition, Lily Moore placed fourth with a max lift of 195 pounds. Right behind her was Mira Root in seventh place with a max lift of 155 pounds. The competition was furthered in the 110 pound weight class, where Bella Hobday placed fifth with a max lift of 210 pounds. The 119 pound weight class had two more placements; Liberty Ward placed fifth with a max lift of 220 pounds, and close behind was Claire Bond in eighth place with a max lift of 215 pounds. The Buccaneers' next top weightlifter was Morgan Brennan in the 139 pound weight class, with a max lift of 280 pounds.
The 169 pound weight class boasted Olivia Grinstead with a max lift of 300 pounds. Next was the 183 pound weight class, where Anabella Dicks placed third with a max lift of 270 pounds. Ansleigh Young was close behind in sixth place with a max lift of 255 pounds. Aubrey Wood was the next Buccaneer to appear in the 199 pound weight class; she placed seventh with a max lift of 295 pounds. Finally, in the Unlimited weight class, Wyllow Davis placed seventh with a max lift of 305 pounds. Branford ended the competition by placing fifth as a team with a total of 16 points.
