On Friday, Jan. 31, both boys and girls Branford High School basketball teams hosted the Bronson Eagles for a showdown. The boys' game was very back-and-forth; in the first quarter, the Eagles scored 20 points, while the Buccaneers stole an early lead with 20 points. In the second quarter, however, the Buccaneers found themselves on the defensive, scoring 10 points compared to the Eagles' 17. The Buccaneers made up some lost ground in the third quarter scoring 12 points, to the Eagles' nine. However, in the fourth and final quarter, the Eagles once again pulled ahead, scoring 20 points to the Buccaneers' 15 and eventually winning the game 62-57.
The girls' game mirrored the boys's with a tight match back and forth. Unfortunately, the Eagles pulled an early lead in the first quarter, scoring nine points to the Buccaneers' six. The second quarter was the tightest match yet, as both teams scored 11 points. In the third quarter, the Eagles once again eeked an extra point, scoring nine to the Buccaneers' eight. The fourth and final quarter was tight, as both teams scored 10 points. Sadly, the Buccaneers lost the game 39-35. However, while the night was a loss for the Buccaneers, something more important than that was happening. The Buccaneers also celebrated its senior basketball players, giving each of them the chance to speak about their future plans as they entered into adulthood.
