Surrounded by family, friends, coaches and classmates, Branford High School seniors Morgan Brennan and Layla Arnold officially signed their letters of intent to continue their softball careers at the collegiate level on Tuesday, Jan. 28.
Brennan committed to Eastern Florida State College, while Arnold will stay closer to home, signing with Florida Gateway College. Branford softball head coach Oscar Saavedra spoke with pride about the accomplishments of both players, highlighting their growth, resilience and leadership on and off the field.
"Morgan was never the player who just showed up and went through the motions," Saavedra said. "She was the one who showed up early, stayed late, and always gave 100 percent, no matter how tired or how tough the drill. Watching her develop over the years has been nothing short of incredible."
Saavedra also praised Arnold's determination and evolution as an athlete during her high school career.
"When Layla first joined the team, I could see her potential—the raw talent, energy and drive to be great," Saavedra said. "College softball will be a new challenge, but if there's one thing I know for sure, it's that she's more than ready for the next step."
Brennan took a moment to express her gratitude, thanking her coaches, teammates, family and the Branford community for their support.
"Coach Saavedra has always believed in me, even when I didn't believe in myself," Brennan said. "I'm so grateful for the amazing coaching staff and this community. It truly means so much to have all of you here today."
The ceremony also served as a testament to the strength of the Branford softball program, which has made three state championship appearances in recent years.
