The Branford High School (BHS) Beta Club recently traveled to Orlando to participate in the 83rd Annual State Convention. On Saturday, Jan. 18, and Sunday, Jan. 19, 30 members of the club competed in a variety of events, including academic tests, speech, performing dance routines, engineering, performing living literature, art and cake decorating.
Of the 30 students who participated in the weekend events, 25 placed in the top three in their respective categories. Additionally, BHS made history as Jon Weisner was elected Florida State Beta President, becoming the first-ever state Beta president from the school.
The 25 students that placed top three in their categories now have the opportunity to attend the national convention in June. Weisner will also have the chance to run for national Beta president, representing Branford and Florida on the national stage. This event will also take place in Orlando.
“We are incredibly proud of our students for their hard work, talent and dedication,” BHS Beta Club sponsor Lindsey Ramsey said. “Thank you to the district for allowing my club and my students to participate in this amazing opportunity to build their character and learn to lead by serving others.”
