Branford council weighs county fire services proposal, votes to begin drafting agreement

The Branford Town Council met twice this month — during a workshop on Monday, Jan. 5, and again at its regular meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 13 — to continue a discussion that has been building for years: how the town should provide fire protection moving forward, and whether to continue to invest in the Branford Volunteer Fire Department.
Council members stressed several times during the Jan. 13 meeting that the discussion would not dissolve the volunteer department, nor would it finalize a transition to county control.
