Bobby Ray "BR549" Sistrunk, age 85, of Live Oak. passed away on Saturday, Sept. 18, 2021, at Lake City Medical Center in Lake City. Sistrunk was born in White Springs. on June 24, 1936, to the late Talmadge and Jessie Wooten Sistrunk. He left school to join the United States Army and served his country honorably. Sistrunk retired from Occidental Chemical Company, where he worked in a supervisory position. He was a longtime resident of White Springs and would likely have died there were it not for losing his home to a house fire in 2015. It was then that he and his wife, Sybil, moved to Live Oak to be near their daughter and her family. "BR" always had a joke to tell you and usually it was even funnier after a day on the river or the flats fishing. Just like the fish, the tales just got bigger as the day grew longer. He also enjoyed going to the hunting woods, playing his harmonica and being "Papa" to his only granddaughter, Jessika. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Sybil Bonnell Sistrunk; his son, Bryan Sistrunk, of White Springs; his daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Fred Schautz, of Live Oak; granddaughter, Jessika Hinkle (Mack); two great grandchildren, Riley and Ramsey; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held on Wednesday, Sept. 22, at Riverside Cemetery in White Springs. Harry T. Reid Funeral Home in Jasper was in charge of arrangements.
