On Wednesday, July 1, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission was notified at approximately 8 p.m. of a missing boater in Gilchrist County. According to reports, a 17-foot boat struck a dock, knocking two people into the water. One person resurfaced; however, the other, later identified as Amber Buda, a 44-year-old Suwannee County resident, did not.
Officials began what would become an almost six-hour search as first responders and divers searched for Buda. At approximately 1 a.m. on Thursday, July 2, Buda’s body was located and recovered.
Buda was a wife, mother of two daughters and a realtor with Grantham Realty. She also served for more than two decades with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement at the Live Oak office.
“Amber would want those left behind not to remain in sorrow, but to treasure every day,” her obituary reads. “Though our hearts are heavy with grief, we hold on to the promise of seeing her again.”
A celebration of Buda’s life will be held on Wednesday, July 15, at noon at Westwood Baptist Church, located at 920 11th St. S.W., in Live Oak. Visitation will precede the service from 10 a.m. to noon.
