Avoid getting stuck with sandspurs

Prevention is worth a ton of cure when it comes to keeping sandspurs (also known as sandburs or grassburs) out of your yard. Sandspurs are weeds that lie low during the spring and early summer, then in late summer, the dreaded prickly seed pods arrive in full force. Each seed pod can contain up to four seeds and grows in hot, dry, sandy soils. This is one weed you want to prevent because it hurts when you step on it. My young dog recently got into some sandspurs and stood like a statue until I pulled them out of his paw. The best defense against sandspurs is a thick, healthy lawn grass.
