Around the Banks
Captain Charles Floyd Cone (1835-1924) was born in Camden County, Ga. He fought during the War Between the States and was an officer in the Confederate Army. As land was readily available in Florida, he settled about a mile north of White Springs, procuring some 3,500 acres of land. He built the historic home at the One Mile Sill (formerly a turpentine distillery) currently owned by the family of the late Mary Anderson Benton of Jacksonville, Fla., and her sister, Martha Anderson Hunt, also of Jacksonville. Their parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. W.L. Anderson, Sr., purchased Cone Pasture, now part of the Big Shoals State Park, in the late 1930s.
