
Around the Banks
My family has been a part of North Central Florida for over 200 years. In comparison to some of the eastern seaboard or the United Kingdom and Europe, a short time, but for Florida, especially that settled after 1821 when the state became an American territory, a fairly long time.
Food preparation and the types of food eaten by individuals define a culture as much as anything. In this week's column, I am writing about some memorable foods enjoyed by my family, and I hope these evoke fond memories for my readers.
This is the time of year when the bountiful harvests from spring and summer vegetable gardens begin to be picked. Fresh squash, string beans, cucumbers, those very first vine-r
