A show of affection turned into a stabbing incident at a home in Jennings on Sunday, Dec. 29. The investigation is ongoing, and charges are pending against the suspects in this case.
The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) responded to a call for service at approximately 11:10 p.m. in reference to a stabbing. According to the report, emergency dispatch informed Deputy Jake Stephens that the victim’s daughter, identified in the report as 40-year-old Lake City resident Abagail Lee Roser, allegedly stabbed the victim when she asked for a hug. It was also noted that the victim had delayed the report, with the incident occurring approximately 30 minutes prior to the call for service.
Information regarding the parent, including the gender and exact relationship to Roser, was not available due to Marsy’s Law, which protects victims of violent crimes.
When Deputy Stephens arrived at the residence, the victim was lying on a recliner with bandages covering their wounds.
The victim explained to Deputy Stephens that a dark-colored Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) pulled up to their home, and a male had exited the vehicle. The male approached them and announced that he was Roser’s husband. The two had sat on the porch for approximately 30 minutes, talking about motorcycles and other topics. Roser then stepped out of the vehicle and came onto the porch, sitting down with the victim and her alleged husband. The victim did not go into details about what they spoke about. However, the report states Roser got up and asked the victim for a hug. When the victim put his arms around Roser, she allegedly used her free hand to brandish a knife, stabbing the victim in the neck and abdomen. The victim stated the man accompanying Roser told her to stop, took the knife from her hand, and left in the SUV.
A witness who lives with the victim stated that he saw a man and a woman come to the house to speak with the victim on the front porch for approximately an hour. The witness stated that as the couple was preparing to leave, he heard the victim fall against the door to the residence. After the couple left, the witness said that the victim came into the house with blood all over their shirt, advising that they had been stabbed.
Deputy Stephens continued to interview the victim, who initially stated that they had not seen their daughter in 10 years, but later said that it was closer to 25 years. They shared that their daughter’s name was Abagail. They were not sure of her married name, but did state they knew she was married. The victim further told the deputy that she may live in Lake City.
When asked why she would have stabbed them, they said that Roser may have been holding a grudge for an incident that led to the victim going to prison.
After providing the information, the victim was transported to South Georgia Medical Center for further treatment of their injuries. During Deputy Stephens’s investigation, he was able to identify Roser as the alleged suspect. Despite looking for the knife used in the incident, it could not be located.
Due to the nature of the incident, Deputy Stephens escalated the investigation to Investigator Theresa Williams, who traveled to South Georgia Medical Center to speak with the victim further.
Charges have been filed in this case. However, the investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have been made as of press time.
