A Live Oak man was arrested on Thursday, Dec. 28, after allegedly assaulting his wife and the incident being captured on camera. On the day in question, Live Oak Police Department (LOPD) Officer Kyle Nauta responded to the Suwannee County Jail lobby in reference to a female who wished to file domestic violence charges from an incident that had occurred the previous day, Wednesday, Dec. 27. According to the arrest report, when Officer Nauta arrived, he met with the victim, who identified herself as the wife of 33-year-old Live Oak resident Atuar Rahaman. She stated that her husband had attacked her by allegedly slapping her in the face with an open hand, pulling her hair, and strangling her. The victim was able to provide Officer Nauta with security footage from the couple’s living room, which allegedly showed the incident. The victim shared that this was the fourth time that Rahaman had attacked her. She was also able to provide footage from Wednesday, Dec. 18 and Wednesday, Dec. 27, showing Rahaman attacking her. The first video shown was dated Dec. 27 at approximately 9:24 p.m. The footage allegedly showed Rahaman entering the living room, grabbing the victim by the hair and pulling her down on the ground. Shortly after, Rahaman grabbed the victim’s hair once again, directing her head into a door frame while dragging her into the bedroom area. The second video shown was dated the same day at approximately 9:33 p.m. The video shows the open doorway into the bedroom from the living room camera. From this view, Rahaman could be seen pulling the victim’s hair in the bedroom, and a struggle between both parties ensued. Another video shown by the victim was dated Dec. 18 at approximately 6:58 p.m. The report states Rahaman could be seen with the victim sitting on a couch, engaging in a verbal argument. During the course of the argument, Rahaman got up from the sofa and allegedly grabbed the victim around the neck with both hands and threw her onto the couch while continuing to strangle her. Rahaman climbed on top of the victim at this point and continued strangling the victim. Shortly after, both Rahaman and the victim were shown sitting up on the couch. From there, he allegedly grabbed the victim by the back of her head with his left hand, throwing her face into the back of the couch and pushing her face into the couch cushion. The final video was dated on the same day at approximately 7:06 p.m. In the video, Rahaman is seen getting up from the couch and entering the bedroom area. He then exited the bedroom with the victim, dragging her from the bedroom with his left hand into the living room. Rahaman can then be seen striking the victim in the back of the neck two times with a closed right fist as she fell to the ground. The victim attempted to get up from the ground before Rahaman grabbed her by the neck and threw her onto the couch. Rahaman then climbed on top of the victim, slapping her across the face with his right hand approximately six times. After the attack, the video showed Rahaman standing over the victim, using a slapping motion towards her face. She then threw herself onto the couch, blocking Rahaman’s attempted attacks by raising her hands up. The victim stated that the arguments and subsequent attacks began due to Rahaman talking to other women. He initially became angry after the victim checked his phone while he was talking to another woman. During these attacks, she alleged that Rahaman was unable to breathe when he strangled her and, at one point, caused her nose to bleed. Because of the information provided to the LOPD, the victim was made aware of her rights as a domestic violence victim and that Rahaman would be arrested for his alleged actions. When asked where he would be located, the victim advised that he would be working at the Taylor Store on State Road 51. At approximately 10:51 a.m., Deputy Pert with the Suwannee County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the Taylor Store and arrested Rahaman on the warrant for domestic violence. He was transported to the Suwannee County Jail, where he was interviewed about the incidents in question. After he was booked, Officer Nauta contacted the victim to let her know that he was in jail. Rahaman was charged with felony domestic battery with strangulation, false imprisonment, simple battery and assault. He was booked at the Suwannee County Jail and was released the following day on a $50,000 bond. If you or a loved one is experiencing domestic violence, there are safe options available to you.
