The soccer teams of Suwannee Middle School (SMS) had a well-deserved Christmas break to end the year. The school's boys and girls soccer teams won the 2020 Big Bend Championship before the school closed for the holidays and brought a fantastic end to what was a stellar year for both teams. It was a memorable season for all, with the Lady Bullpups finishing theirs undefeated and the Bullpups winning the championship title for the fifth year in a row.
The playoffs were both meant to be home games, but after a forfeit, the SMS boys instead spent the evening of Tuesday, Dec. 15, supporting the girls by watching the Lady Bullpups game play out. The SMS girls remained undefeated and, in doing so, won the honor of hosting the championship game at home in Live Oak, at Langford Stadium.
The SMS boys team traveled to Wakulla for their championship game on Thursday, Dec. 17, and went on to defeat Riversprings Middle School (RMS), securing their five-year winning streak. The Lady Bullpups of Suwannee were matched against Taylor County Middle School (TCMS) for the second time that season, but the Bulldogs of Perry were not a match for the SMS girls team, who also walked away with a championship.
SMS is sure to have a lot of new talent that will tryout next spring, and another championship season will be underway in 2021, but in the meantime, both the girls and boys of the school's soccer teams can enjoy the feeling of being champions after working so hard to earn the title. The boys' coaches, Head Coach Adam Hitt and Assistant Coach Felipe Yaxon, have had a great year with the boys. Likewise, the girls' coaches, Head Coach Amanda Mabey and Assistant Coaches Ashley Turner and Bethany Mabey, have had as great of a year, thanks to the girls. SMS has dedicated individuals when it comes to the school's sports and with coaches like them, champions are sure to continue being made.
