On Friday, Dec. 27 and Saturday, Dec. 29, the community will join together to honor the memory of Suwannee Middle School Coach Steve Claffey, who passed away from colon cancer in 2013 at the age of 45. Since its inception in 2015, the Steve Claffey Memorial Foundation's annual Memorial Game has raised over $12,000, of which every dollar has gone to families in need throughout the community. The Resiliency Scholarship is dedicated to students who are facing adversity and overcoming obstacles, all the while continuing to pursue their education. The fun will begin on Friday night, when alumni from Suwannee's High School's graduating classes will hit Paul Langford Stadium for a friendly match. Then, the following morning, at 9 a.m., a special kids camp will offer the area's youth an opportunity to become future stars by learning from some of the best coaches around. The weekend of fun will wind down that Saturday afternoon with the alumni tournament, which will begin at 3 p.m. Individuals who are interested in helping make this annual event an unforgettable one are encouraged to attend. Additionally, the Steve Claffey Memorial Foundation is accepting donations to help fund the scholarship. To donate, visit www.gofundme.com and type "Steve Claffey Memorial Game and Scholarship" in the search bar. All of the Memorial Foundation events will take place at Paul Langford Stadium, located at 302 Parshley St. SW, in Live Oak.
