On Friday, Dec. 6, the Town of White Springs came alive with festive cheer during Christmas on Bridge Street hosted by Suwannee Hardware & Feed. Residents and visitors reveled in the holiday spirit as local vendors lined Bridge Street, offering a delightful array of crafts, gifts and mouth-watering treats from various food trucks. The evening culminated in the Christmas on Bridge Street Parade, an event that everyone in the town looks forward to each year. Adding to the excitement were a lively Chili Cook-off and a whimsical Ugly Sweater Contest, all contributing to the enchanting atmosphere that signaled the start of the Christmas season in White Springs. This year’s parade featured the Grinch, who playfully navigated through the crowd in a brilliantly decorated sled illuminated with sparkling green Christmas lights, while Santa Claus made a grand entrance, cruising through the downtown streets in his vintage 1961 Chevy, spreading joy and smiles among the young and the young at heart. The parade was led by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, paving the way for a dazzling display of floats that brought the holiday decorations to life as they glided down the parade route. As the festivities unfolded outside, the Chili Cook-off showcased an array of hearty and unique recipes that tempted the taste buds of attendees. Joyce Fillyaw triumphed in the competition with her award-winning "Chilly Day Chili." Logan Charles claimed the second place spot with his creatively named "Yum Yum, You Get Some" chili, while Phillis Hanchok earned third place for her "Crazy Pineapple" chili. Meanwhile, the Ugly Christmas Sweater Contest brought its own flair to the evening, with participants donning the most outlandish and festive attire imaginable. Merri McKenzie stole the show, earning first prize for her eye-catching creation, while Katherine Freeman and Babra Dedrick proudly accepted second and third place, respectively, showcasing the spirit of fun and camaraderie that defined the night.
