On Tuesday, Dec. 10, the Lafayette County Board of County Commissioners met for its regularly scheduled meeting. The meeting began with the approval of the minutes from the previous meeting, followed by a call for public comment, to which there was no response. The board then heard department head reports. The only person with anything to report was Seth Jackson with public works. He told the board that three graders were out and running. He also stated there was still a lot of debris around the county and that commissioners should give him a heads up if they see any piles, so they don't get missed. The board then approved extending the state of emergency due to Hurricanes Helene and Debby. Board members also approved the 2025 holiday calendar. Then, three different items were presented to the board; they were: appointing a committee for the Edward Perry Sports Complex operations; appointing a committee for a hurricane shelter; and appointing a committee to address the storm water issues within the county. Chairman Anthony Adams explained that the committees were not fully ready yet and asked the board to table all three appointments. The commission agreed and tabled them for the next meeting. The board then approved a list of roads to submit to the Department of Transportation for SCRAP and SCOP. The board then began a discussion on the next regularly scheduled meeting, as it fell on Tuesday, Dec. 24, Christmas Eve. The board agreed to cancel the meeting and have a quick meeting on Friday, Dec. 27, just to pay the bills. The board then approved an extension on the Lafayette County Sheriff's Office jail project. Finally, they approved an amendment extending the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission agreement for the Ezell Floating Dock project. The meeting was then adjourned. The next regularly scheduled meeting will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 14, at 9 a.m. in the Lafayette County Courthouse, located at 120 W Main St., in Mayo.
