Each year, youth from all over the North Central Florida area converge on Pickett Lake for Camp Connexion. Over the last 15 years, hundreds of children have joined together to dedicate their lives to serving Jesus Christ. While it is a spiritual experience for the youth that attend, it is equally inspiring for the camp councilors as well. All the councilors are volunteers who look forward to the camp every year. From Monday, June 5, through Thursday, June 8, Camp Connexion was in full force with games, fellowship and ample opportunity for a spiritual message to reach all involved. Damon Walker, a former college football player and United States Air Force Veteran, was just one of the many powerful councilors excited to give his example on how to seek Christ. Walker knows the struggles of local youth, as he is involved in their everyday lives. While Camp Connexion is an isolated event for one week where the youth are shut off from the world to focus solely on their relationship and commitment to Christ, Walker and other counselors understand, following camp, the kids will return to the world where their struggles and temptations are more prevalent than ever. Therefore, time is well-spent in helping them build a strong foundation with Christ to withstand the world's attractions. Every night, the campers convened to hear a prepared message by either reading the scriptures of the Bible or by watching a skit or play. The goal of the message is to help them seek Christ and form the relationship they want with him.
