Having a healthy, attractive smile means a lot to Americans - whether it's their own smile or they are noticing other people's teeth. Affordable Dentures & Implants has conducted research of 4,000 Americans, into how they feel about their smile and how much attention they pay to other people's teeth.
The research found that 21 percent of people in Florida do not smile with their teeth when having their picture taken, with only 36 percent saying that they are proud of their smile. When asked to rank how confident they felt when smiling and showing their teeth (one being the lowest and 10 the highest), the average ranking was 6.23.
The survey also looked into the impact our teeth and oral health have on our mental health. Approximately 35 percent of those based in Florida said that they are always worried about their teeth and oral health, with only 32 percent saying they do not worry about this at all.
When shown the picture accompanying this article, 91 percent of people in Florida noticed the missing tooth at first glance before they noticed the missing eyebrow. Only 5 percent of people saw the missing eyebrow first.
Approximately 85 percent of people in Florida also said they pay attention to other people's teeth when interacting with them, with 32 percent of people saying it is one of the very first things they notice about them.
"It was sad to find out just how many Americans do not feel happy with their smile, with 7 percent saying that they hate their teeth. Everyone should feel confident to share their smile with the world," said Dr. Jumoke Adedoyin, Chief Clinical Officer of Affordable Dentures & Implants. "At Affordable Dentures & Implants, we know how much missing or damaged teeth can affect people's self-esteem - so it feels great to know that the work we do gets people smiling again. Cost can sometimes be a barrier that stops people from seeking dental treatment that could change their lives. Our mission has always been focused on providing patients with access to high-quality and affordable tooth replacement care."
