Mayo man found guilty of second degree murder

Lafayette county resident Earnest Turner, 53, was found guilty of second degree murder on Monday, April 15. Turner was arrested on Aug. 27, 2022, after shooting into the resident of Justin Sloat. After shooting through the home's door, Turner proceeded to enter the residence, where he shot and killed Sloat.
Almost two years later, justice has prevailed. After an hour of deliberation by the jury, Turner was convicted of second degree murder, first degree premeditated attempted murder and burglary. Turner is scheduled to be sentenced by Judge David Fina on Tuesday, June 4.
