The Covenant First Presbyterian Church of Live Oak will present to the community a Tenebrae service on Good Friday, March 29, at 7:30 p.m. William Poplin will direct a choir in several very moving choral meditations. After each scripture reading, an anthem, and a responsive reading, a candle will be extinguished as the sanctuary lights dim.
This Service of Darkness commemorates the suffering and death of Christ, and is based on the ancient Tenebrae. Dating from the eighth century, Tenebrae was originally celebrated on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of Holy Week. It represented the darkness that fell over the Earth as the Son of God was crucified.
