Inaugural Citrus Classic showcases thrilling polocrosse match-ups

Danny Federico reporter3.riverbendnews@gmail.com Barnes Hay Farms hosted a unique sporting tournament from Friday, March 8, through Sunday, March 10, in which polo and lacrosse were combined in intense matchups. Salty Britches Polocrosse in Lake City, Katherine Vogel, Sarah Andrews and Gabby Alyce joined forces to elevate the sport in the public's eye, culminating in the inaugural Citrus Classic. The tournament saw 25 teams compete in six divisions. Developed in Australia in 1938, polocrosse utilizes elements of both polo and lacrosse. Two teams of six players (divided into two sections of three) play between two to four chukkas (periods) of six to eight minutes. Instead of using a malle
