Bill would prohibit firing guns in residential areas

Celebrants who discharge firearms in residential areas during festive or other occasions will be hard put to do so in the future, should a proposed bill in the current legislative session be approved into law. House Bill 259 and companion Senate Bill 270 would prohibit gun owners from recreationally shooting firearms outdoors, even for practice shooting, if “the firearm discharge does not remain within the boundaries of the property in which the discharge takes place.” The bill is not clear if by “discharge” it means the noise is made or the projectile is fired. The law would apply to areas that “are primarily residential in nature
