Martha Anne "Marty" Jackson, age 78, of Jasper, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2020, at her home following a brief illness.
Marty was the daughter of the late Henry and Marcella Schultz Standefer. She was born in McAllen, Texas on Nov. 13, 1941. Standing straight up, Marty measured a mere five-feet-tall, but she packed an awful lot of punch into that small frame. Marty was an educator with 32 years in the public, school system. She taught in the classroom, served for a time as the Director of Special Education, and finished out her career as principal at Greenwood School. Marty was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma International Society for Key Women Educators. Following her retirement, she enjoyed playing Dominoes and Bridge with her close-knit group of friends. She was an avid reader and enjoyed being outdoors and gardening. Marty also enjoyed planning programs and decorating for and attending the Jasper Woman's Club. Marty loved to travel and she and her husband, William, enjoyed many trips around the United States and abroad. Given the opportunity, Marty would tell you that being "M" was what she enjoyed most in life. Spending time with her grandchildren was indeed a priority for her.
Marty was predeceased by her parents and her husband of 42 years, William O. Jackson, Sr.
Survivors include her children, Hazen Chandler of Jacksonville, Meghan Chandler (Rick Whiddon) of Jasper, Suzanne Jackson of Valdosta, Ga., and William O. "Bill" Jackson, Jr. of Daytona; and four grandchildren, Marcella Horton, Jackson Horton, Nikki Jackson and Samantha Romanelli.
A memorial service was held on Friday, Nov. 6, , in the chapel of Harry T. Reid Funeral Home with Pastor Tim Ingram officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Martha Jackson Special Education Scholarship at Hamilton County High School, 5683 Hwy 129 South, Jasper, Fla., 32052. Harry T.
