Suwannee History: The Hull-Hawkins House

Although Suwannee County has lost many of its early homes and buildings over the years due to fire, neglect and the changing times, there are still a few structures that have thankfully survived for well over 100 years, and some even beyond 150 years. One of the oldest is what is commonly called the Hull-Hawkins House, situated on County Road 49.
The Hull-Hawkins House was originally the home of Noble Andrew Hull, early settler and first sheriff of Suwannee County. Hull was born in Georgia in 1827, and moved to what is now Suwannee County in 1851 as a merchant. He was elected sheriff after Suwannee County’s foundation in 1858, but resigned in October of 1859 a
