Last week, we began looking at how Suwannee County was created by Legislative action. In today’s article, we will complete our discussion.
Once the Florida Senate had approved a bill to create Suwannee County, it was passed to the House of Representatives for discussion and approval. A committee in the House reviewed the bill and, on Dec. 7, 1858, recommended that it be passed, reading it for the first and second times on the same day. The House again took up the proposal to create Suwannee (now spelled with a double “n”) and New River Counties on Dec. 8, but upon a motion of Representative Whitfield, further consideration of the bill was postponed until D
