The Third Annual Suwannee Valley Cornhole Tournament, hosted on Saturday, Oct. 24, by the Suwannee Valley Electric Cooperative (SVEC), raised $5,028 for United Way of Suwannee Valley (UWSV), about $1,600 more than last year.
This year's tournament featured a total of 30 teams divided into Competitive and Novice brackets.
"The tournament gets bigger and better every year, and one of the things I like most about it is meeting the people who come out to play," said SVEC Director of Communications Jon Little. "Everyone is friendly, courteous and excited to be able to help out United Way. We have a great time."
"It was so wonderful to see so many people come out to this year's tournament for some fun and to support United Way of Suwannee Valley,” said UWSV Executive Director Jennifer Anchors. "We owe a huge 'thank you' to SVEC for all of the donated hours they put into making this such a big event and allowing the United Way to educate others about our services."
North FL Cornhole organized the brackets and coordinated the games. Tournament sponsors were:
Gusher Level, Seminole Electric Cooperative (SVEC's wholesale power provider); Swish Level, First Federal Bank and SunStop of Live Oak; Slider Level, Ace Pole Co., Ameris Bank, State Representative Chuck Brannan, Dixie Grill, Farmers Cooperative, Poole Realty, RIVEROAK Technical College and Mr. Shawn Hingson; Ace Level, John's Lawn Equipment and Suwannee County Elected Officials. Additionally, the Brown Lantern restaurant provided gift certificates for a raffle.
SVEC is a not-for-profit cooperative that provides safe, affordable and reliable electric service to over 19,000 consumer-members in Florida's Columbia, Hamilton, Lafayette and Suwannee Counties. SVEC maintains over 4,100 miles of electric distribution lines and serves an area of about 2,100 square miles. SVEC's headquarters is in Live Oak.
