Area schools part of state-wide bomb threat

Seven schools across the Big Bend area received the threat via email, including Gadsden, Lafayette, Leon, Madison, Suwannee, Taylor and Wakulla Counties. Although the threat turned out to be a hoax, area schools were placed on heightened alert. "The threat was sent to most of the school districts in the State of Florida, and the Florida DOE Office of Safe Schools is aware and concurs that there is no immediate threat," said Gerald Powers, Director of Safety and Mental Health for the Lafayette County School District. Lafayette County Sheriff Brian Lamb
