The Suwannee County Chamber of Commerce hosted their annual Business of the Year awards on Thursday, Oct. 29 at the Live Oak Church of God. Big Wood BBQ and Grill won an award for Large Business of the Year; Tri-County Tree Service won Medium Business of the Year; Jordan Agency won Small Business of the Year and Suwannee Correctional Institution won an award for Non-Profit Business of the Year. When asked about how they choose their nominees or what the Chamber of Commerce looks for when choosing candidates, Suwannee County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Hillary Cannon stated, “We don't actually look for anything.” All the businesses involved in the selection process were nominated by local people and other businesses in the community. Nominees are put into categories based on their employment number and then are chosen by past winners and committee members. It's a nomination process for businesses, brought to fruition by the locals that support them.
“It's always important to highlight businesses in our community,” Cannon said. Riverbend News would like to congratulate these four businesses, as well as thank them for their hard work and dedication to the community.
