The Branford High School Buccaneers finished their regular season at home on a winning note by defeating another rival, the Trenton High School Tigers, 12-9, on Friday, Oct. 30. The Bucs finished their regular season with a 6-1 overall record.
The Tigers struck first in the contest and threatened to add to their lead when a Buc defender intercepted a Tiger pass in the end-zone. The Tigers held a 6-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Bucs struck back with a rushing touchdown late in the second quarter to tie the score at six points apiece, heading into halftime. The Bucs took the lead late in the third quarter with another rushing touchdown. The Bucs held a 12-6 lead at the end of the third quarter. The Tigers managed to put a dent into the Bucs' lead with a field goal early in the fourth quarter to put the score at 12-9, with the Bucs still in the lead. That score held throughout the remainder of the contest.
Seth Heiderman went 14-for-17 in passing, with 72 yards and one interception. Bodhi White led the Bucs' rushing with 50 yards on 16 carries and one touchdown. Markell Pugh also had 10 yards on the ground on four carries and one rushing touchdown. Matt Warren was named the Player of the Game for the Bucs for his nine solo tackles and one forced fumble.
The Bucs will have a week off in the opening round of the Class 1A state playoffs. They will await to host the winner of the Ft. White vs Hamilton County game, in the Region Three Quarter-final game on Friday, Nov. 13. Kickoff for the game is set for 7:30 p.m.
