Mid-season overview: Samantha Ray anchors Buccaneers’ soccer defense

The Branford High School girls' soccer team is currently in its second season. Samantha Ray has become the anchor for the Buccaneers' defense this season. During their first season, the team gave up an average of 3.9 goals per game and finished with a 3-11-1 record. This season, the Buccaneers have been reclassified from Independent to Class 3A.
Ray has taken up the role of the team's goalie and has turned the Buccaneers into a team that opponents can't overlook. She has made 79 saves through seven games this season and has her team allowing an average of just 2.7 goals per game. However, Ray averages 11.3 saves per game for the Buccaneers.
