On Friday, Oct. 23, the Branford High School Buccaneers went on the road to defeat the Rams of Interlachen High School, 12-7. With the win, the Bucs improved their record to 5-1, with one more game remaining on their regular season.
The Bucs were the first to strike when Markell Pugh punched the ball over the goal line from three yards out, late in the first quarter. The point-after-touchdown (PAT) missed its mark and the Bucs held a 6-0 lead as the opening period came to a close. The Bucs were able to add to their lead in the second quarter with another touchdown to take a 12-0 advantage into halftime. The Rams were able to get on the scoreboard during the third period. The Bucs were able to keep the Rams at bay for the remainder of the game to take the 12-7 victory.
Markell Pugh was named Player of the Week.
Next up for the Bucs is a home game against the Tigers of Trenton High School. The Tigers are bringing a 4-4 record into the game after edging the Red Devils of Williston High School, 40-38. Kickoff is set for Friday, Oct. 30, at 7:30 p.m.
