The Jasper Police Department is currently investigating a shooting that occurred on Friday night, Oct. 27, which left two individuals injured and one fatally wounded. One of the two surviving individuals was reported as being critically injured; however, the individual's condition has since improved.
The deceased individual was identified as 42-year-old Jasper resident Martin Clay.
According to Police Chief Leyon Kerklin, the shooting took place at approximately 11:19 p.m. in the Marathon gas station parking lot located in downtown Jasper. Although the motivation for the shooting is uncertain, Chief Kerklin confirmed the victims and the perpetrator knew each other.
As of Monday, Oct. 30, the shooter has not been arrested, but Chief Kerklin stated they do have a suspect in mind.
