My Daddy would often make a statement regarding growing older: "It takes forever to turn 21, and then you're 40 in three weeks."
It is hard for me to believe, even as I write this column, that I am writing on the eve of my 65th birthday. It is harder for me to believe that I began writing a weekly column for local newspapers over 35 years ago. Life goes by in a flash, and that's the truth.
Yesterday, I was on a fall hayride with friends in the halcyon days of my youth, dancing under disco lights in clothing that didn't have a natural fiber (I still have two of my Nik Nik shirts from the Disco era -- I had to buy those at Rich's in Atlanta), and sitting in a dorm
