On Tuesday, Oct. 6, the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of a third Lafayette High School (LHS) student who was arrested for bringing a gun onto school grounds.
On Monday, Oct. 5, LHS staff received a tip that a student had a weapon on the school's campus. School personnel and the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office Resource Deputy followed policy and quickly implemented a lockdown of the LHS campus.
The student in question was immediately isolated and a magazine with ammunition was recovered. During the investigation, it was learned another student was also in possession of a firearm. That student was isolated and the firearm was recovered.
The entire incident lasted approximately 20 minutes. Both students, one a 15-year-old male and the other a 16-year-old male, were arrested and transported to the Lafayette County Jail. These students are facing charges of possession of a firearm on school property.
Upon further investigation, it was discovered that a third student was in possession of the same weapon on campus during school hours. The student was arrested and transported to the Lafayette County Jail on Oct. 6, and charged with possession of a firearm on school campus.
“The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office will not tolerate weapons on school campus. These actions will be dealt with swiftly and severely,” said Sheriff Brian Lamb. “We continue to encourage everyone that if you ‘See Something … Say Something.’”
