On Aug. 25, 2012, Kamrie Mitchell was seen leaving her father's house in Wellborn. She had just filed a report with the Suwannee County Sheriff's Office (SCSO) against a man named Andrelo Witcher for robbery. She knew him from a previous time in her life. He, as well as two others, had arrived at her father's house armed and demanded pills. After Mitchell left her father's house, she was never seen again. She was reported missing on Sept. 2, 2012. Mitchell was known to disappear from time to time. However, even while her location was unknown, she would check in on her child. After not checking in for a while, her family became concerned.
Three days after being reported missing, on Sept. 5, Mitchell's car was found on 184th Street at the Suwannee/Columbia county line. The car was submerged in floodwaters from Tropical Storm Debbie, and all of Mitchell's belongings were still in the car.
The day after the car was located, Witcher was arrested and charged with robbery and failure to register as a sex offender. The sex offense crimes were not in relation to Mitchell, but a 13-year-old girl from Clay County.
Witcher was later tried for manslaughter in the disappearance of Heather MacCrossen from Alachua County. He had been seen with MacCrossen before her disappearance and was witnessed threatening her life. This eventually led to her fleeing to Michigan with her family. She returned on a Greyhound bus to handle a traffic ticket and was never seen alive again. Although she remains missing, Witcher was charged with her death. He received a sentence of 35 years in prison. He also remains a strong suspect in Mitchell's disappearance.
Thomas Mitchell, Kamrie's father, has spent the past 11 years working with the Suwannee County Sheriff's Office and an Alachua investigator to find his daughter. “Ain't a day goes by that I don't look for her,” Mitchell said.
