On Tuesday, Aug. 8, the White Springs Town Council met for its regularly scheduled meeting. The meeting began with two amendments to the agenda: adding Chad Mathis from the Hamilton County Economic Development Office and Doctor Spencer Lofton, who was there to present a proclamation.
First to speak was Mathis; he was there simply to introduce himself to the council, as well as let them know that the economic development office was willing to help however they can. Next to speak was Doctor Spencer Lofton, who requested the council proclaim Sunday, Aug. 27 asCommunity Service Day in the town. He was asking this, as he was being honored with a Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award for his 40 years of community service. He wanted to continue the tradition of community service in the town. The council readily agreed and proclaimed Sunday, Aug. 27, as Community Service Day.
Lofton also told the council the King of Uganda would be in the United States soon and he would love to set up a meeting between him and the council. The council readily agreed to this as well. The council then made a quick correction to their minutes before approving them.
Finally, the council announced finalized dates for a few meetings they wouldsoon be having. They announced budget workshops on Tuesday, Aug. 22 and Tuesday, Aug. 29 at 6:30 p.m. The first proposed budget hearing will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 6, and the finalized budget hearing will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 19, both of which will also start at 6:30 p.m.
The meeting was then adjourned. The next White Springs Town Council meeting will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 12, at 6:30 p.m. in the White Springs Town Hall, located at 10363 Bridge St., in White Springs.
