Branford, Suwannee and Lafayette High School volleyball teams came together for a summer scrimmage on Thursday, June 29. The scrimmage took place at the Lafayette High School gym and kicked off at 7 p.m. The basketball court was split in half vertically and two volleyball nets were set up so four teams could scrimmage at one time. Both junior varsity and varsity teams were able to play, with each high school scrimmaging against the other teams twice. No scores were kept and each match lasted approximately 20 minutes. Head varsity volleyball coach of Lafayette High School, Ismael Moreno, along with the varsity assistant, Lydia Moreno and junior varsity head coach, Kelsey Land, all came together to make this scrimmage possible for the girls. “We decided to commit as a trio for our small town,” stated Ismael. "We love and breath sports, and to have the privilege to do this as a family, is incredible. This is our first year as coaches for Lafayette's volleyball program and we love to see the surrounding counties committing to coming together to develop and challenge the young athletes of our small towns. We appreciate the coaches, players and parents for devoting their time for the exhilarating game of volleyball that we love." Each high school team has been hosting open gyms during the summer months in order to prepare for the regular volleyball season coming up in August. All coaches felt like this scrimmage was a great opportunity to get the girls up, moving and preparing for the 2023 season.
